Jackie Waters-Dewhurst set up LAAT 13 years ago. The MAT is now 23 schools serving coastal, urban and rural areas and most being under 1FE. In 2023 she set up the LAAT fund supporting those pupils whose barriers to learning were caused by poverty. She believes that looking after all children strengthens relationships and a sense of belonging which impacts on NOR as well as outcomes. Small and rural schools have been a constant in all Jackie’s roles, and she has built a working knowledge of building sustainability through healthy and stable pupil populations.
